Operating Instructions

Now that the installation has been completed, it is time to cover the operation of the DIGI-PANEL. At the turn of the ignition key, the unit will function automatically. Little or no intervention is necessary and the switches on the front panel are designed to customize the DIGI-PANEL for your taste.

The LEDs are color coded for “at-a-glance” monitoring. GREEN denotes a safe condition, YELLOW denotes a caution and RED + ALARMS denotes a dangerous condition.

1. TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE: (4 gauge panel only) Reads transmission temperature and signals the VISUAL and AUDIBLE ALARMS if the temperature reaches 300 º F. When the vehicle is first started and the transmission is cold, no LED will be lit. After a short period of operation, the left-most LED will illuminate first, then move to the right until normal operating temperature is reached. Easy to read color bar-graphs. See specifications.

2. ENGINE TEMPERATURE: Reads engine temperature and signals the VISUAL and AUDIBLE ALARMS if the temperature reaches 250 º F. When the vehicle is first started and the engine is cold, no LED will be lit. After a short period of operation, the left-most LED will illuminate first, then move to the right until normal operating temperature is reached. Easy to read color bar-graphs. See specifications.

3. OIL PRESSURE: Reads engine oil pressure and signals the VISUAL and AUDIBLE ALARMS when oil pressure drops to 10 psi or lower. The LEDs read to 50 psi and lock at that reading for any pressure above 50 psi. This gives better resolution and accuracy for lower pressures that are more critical. Easy to read color bar-graphs. 4. BATTERY VOLTAGE: Reads battery voltage and signals the VISUAL and AUDIBLE ALARMS when voltage falls outside of 11 to 17 volt range. If the ignition switch is turned on without starting the engine, the BATTERY VOLTAGE gauge will show the condition of the battery. A fully charged battery will measure 12.6 volts and corresponds to the right-most YELLOW LED (a quick battery condition indicator). In cold climates, batteries will generally read lower. After the engine is started, the alternator will cause the gauge to go up into the GREEN LEDs. Easy to read color bar-graphs. See specifications.

5. AUDIBLE ALARM SWITCH: Can be turned off by driver once the alarm has gotten driver’s attention. When turned on (up position), the AUDIBLE ALARM automatically sends a piercing 85db tone when any alarm condition is registered. Operating with the AUDIBLE ALARM switch in the OFF position is not recommended. For example, in bright sunlight or in busy traffic conditions, the driver may not notice the VISUAL ALARM during an alarm condition.

Note: The DIGI-PANEL signals a short beep when the ignition is first turned on. This indicates the unit is operating properly and that the AUDIBLE ALARM switch is in the ON (normal) position.

6. VISUAL ALARM: Bright RED LED lights when any gauge signals a problem. Also indicates if the optional ENGINE KILL is engaged (left half of LED is lit at a lower intensity).

7. OPTIONS SWITCH: This switch, if installed, may control one of several functions.

a. If the panel is equipped with the RV BATTERY Option, it is a spring-loaded switch that normally measures chassis battery voltage. When depressed, it reads the RV Batteries. The AUDIBLE ALARM is disabled when the switch is depressed so if the RV Batteries are checked with the engine turned off, the AUDIBLE ALARM will not sound due to no oil pressure.

b. If the panel is equipped with Engine Oil Temperature or Differential Oil Temperature, the Up position reads the Automatic Transmission Temperature and Down reads either Engine Oil or Differential Temperature. It may also be used to measure a 2nd Transmission Temperature Point.

c. If the panel is equipped with the Engine-Kill option, Up enables this function. When enabled, it automatically shuts off the engine 30 seconds after any Alarm condition except for low battery voltage.

The ENGINE-KILL function is designed to protect your engine when it is left idling unattended. When the ENGINE-KILL switch is turned on (up position), the left half of the VISUAL ALARM is illuminated to warn the driver that the ENGINE-KILL function is enabled. The ENGINE-KILL is NOT intended for use while the vehicle is being operated. For example, should an alarm signal the ENGINE-KILL function while the vehicle is moving, within 30 seconds the engine will be shut off, and the power steering and power brake functions will be virtually lost. Steering and stopping will become very difficult, if not impossible.
