GMC Motorhome Electric Windshield
Wiper Conversion
I just sent the following message in response to a request for information on the electric wiper kits. Perhaps more of you need the information it contains. I will be leaving in about 10 days headed to our Dixielanders rally at Maggie Valley, NC, and then on to the GMCES rally in Elkhart, IN. I'll be carrying as many kits as I can get together and in the toad with me. They'll be a little cheaper (no S&H) if you come to one of those to get yours! R & D Photos HERE Lumina motor removal photos and instruction HERE The system is illustrated at HERE Click HERE for a printable pdf document of the whole procedure. The basic kit includes everything needed for the mechanical installation with the exception of the motor itself and perhaps a couple of feet of power steering return hose, dependent upon whether your existing hose will reach down to the power steering box. Its price is $150 + actual shipping cost. The wiring harness includes everything needed to electrically connect the motor except the connector which plugs into the motor. That should be gotten from the junk yard along with the motor. I've got wiring harnesses available with 3 different switches: Rocker, Paddle (flat plastic handle, black), and Wash/Wipe push/rotary. They're shown in photos 15-17 at the web site. The Rocker or Paddle switch harnesses are priced at $30 + $5 S&H. The Wash/Wipe version is $40 + $5 S&H. The mounting plate for the motor is specifically designed for the 90-96 Chevrolet Lumina APV / Olds Silhouette / Pontiac TranSport wiper motor because that motor is designed to swing long arms with 24" blades and has an internal circuit to provide intermittent operation. It is also directly compatible with the steering column mounted combination switches used on later model (80's) GM vehicles. Mounting holes are provided for other motors, such as the Saturn motors widely available from surplus dealers and for common bus/RV motors. It should be easy to adapt almost any motor with a 360* rotating output shaft. But, I have not tested any other motor nor do I know anything about wiring them. The kit includes detailed step-by-step installation instructions for the kit, conversion to the steering column mounted switch, and harvesting of Lumina motors. Operational Lumina motors, with the connector, are generally about $20 at junk yards. Rebuilt motors are available from AutoZone with a lifetime warranty for about $70 plus $10 core. www.rockauto.com offers new AC Delco motors for about $128 and the connector for $28. The smart thing to do is buy a junkyard motor and connector even if you want a rebuilt or new motor. I don't sell motors because of the potential warranty problems. I have both the mechanical and harness kits available right now. Shipping of the mechanical kit to you should be about $15. Why don't we just say I'll ship you a complete kit with Wash/Wipe switch and your choice of large or small rheostat knob for $200 including S&H. That will probably very soon become my standard package. Priority Mail is my standard shipping method; delivery should be within a couple of days.
